History

It is said that the music of your youth will follow you throughout your life. Songs that seem unforgettable...There are songs that shape and define character, and songs that tell of love and the day to day living. There are songs that speak to the masses of people and leave a permanant mark on those who hear them
for the first time or the 1,000th time. Songs not only that you will always remember, but songs that you can never forget.

There are songs that speak for whole entire groups of humanity, make them KNOW that they matter and count no matter where they are. These songs seem to last eternally in the ears and hearts and minds of people and are passed on from generation to generation.

What were you doing the first time you heard Express Yourself? If you happen to be old enough to remember the turbulent 60's or the "I'm OK, You're OK" 70's,
that song is permanently embedded in your mind's memory banks. Who were you with when you heard 'Loveland'? Do you remember opening up the album and smelling the new vinyl as you put the song on your record player? Fast forward to the age of Ipods and MP3 players. These are the songs that STILL sound as good today as when Charles Wright first recorded them.

Charles Wright is more than just an 'oldschool' musician however. Charles is a keeper of the flame, that which is called SOUL Music. Having produced a project in each of the last 5 decades as well as some new music that is in his words, "A work of art that's 40 years in the making," Charles is a music historian. His television show, The Express Yourself Show, is at once a music exploration, showcase, and history lesson which may take the viewer anywhere as Charles is
one to share his wit and wisdom with his guest.

When a song was first played on the radios some decades ago that told YOU to 'Express Yourself' in all that you do no matter what anybody would say to you otherwise, something was put in place. A simple message, yet something was set in motion that would reverberate for generations to come. The next time you hear that familiar yet unique voice, that unforgettable horn section of the Watts 103rd St. Band, and catch the phrase, "whatever you do, EXPRESS Yourself" you may find yourself singing along or snapping a finger no matter what your age, remember this is the Living Music Legacy of Mr. Charles Wright...
